ALTERNATIVES / NOTION AI

A Notion AI alternative with the agent on every plan

Notion is a workspace for teams, with AI built in. Memento is one person’s library, with an agent as its second author — on every plan, free included. Here is what Notion AI does better, what Memento does differently, and when to pick Notion.

What Notion AI does better

It is a whole workspace. Databases, real-time collaboration, sharing and permissions, templates: a team can run its work in Notion, and the AI works across all of it. Notion Agent creates and edits pages and databases, carries out multi-step tasks, and answers questions across the workspace with citations.

It reaches your other tools. On Business and Enterprise, AI connectors search Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Drive, SharePoint, GitHub, Jira, Gmail and more, and AI Meeting Notes transcribe and summarise a call from your microphone and your computer’s audio.

Agents that run on their own. Custom Agents run on a schedule, or when something happens — a page is added, a property changes, a comment arrives, a Slack message comes in.

Ways to check the AI’s edits. You can accept, discard or retry what Notion AI writes; Plan Mode has the agent ask questions and propose a plan before it acts; and “Suggest edits” lets you approve its changes one by one. Add native iOS and Android apps and offline pages on desktop and mobile, and it is a mature product with far more surface than Memento.

What Memento does differently

The agent on every plan, on your own model account

Notion says: “Notion AI is included with Notion’s Business and Enterprise plans”, and workspaces on the other plans get limited trial usage. Business starts at €19.50 per member per month, billed yearly, and Custom Agents are paid for on top, in Notion credits. Memento’s agent is on every plan, the free one included, and runs on the Claude, OpenAI or other model account you already have — so there are no credits, and the only model bill is your provider’s.

Filing is the default, not a workflow you build

In Notion, the AI works on what is already in your workspace, when you ask it or when an agent you configured is triggered. In Memento, you capture — a thought, a link, a PDF, a share from your phone — and the agent decides where it belongs: it distils the facts onto the right pages, links them, and keeps the original as a source. You never pick a page, a database or a property.

Every fact carries a status and a receipt

When Notion AI writes into a page, the result is text in the page. Memento’s agent writes claims with a status — confirmed, inferred or disputed — each citing the read-only source it came from. Something it deduced stays “inferred” until you confirm it, and conflicting sources are flagged instead of silently merged.

History that doesn’t expire

Notion keeps page history for 7 days on Free, 30 on Plus, 90 on Business, and without limit on Enterprise. Memento’s library is a Git repository: every change, yours or the agent’s, is a commit, kept for good, on every plan.

Files, not a database

Notion exports Markdown and CSV, HTML or PDF from its own storage. Memento’s pages are Markdown files in a Git repository the whole time — the export is the storage, not a conversion of it, and it includes your original files and the full history.

Pick Notion instead if …

… you need a team in the same workspace, databases and shared permissions, AI that searches your company’s other tools, or native apps with years of polish behind them. Memento is a single-person library: no shared editing, and filing a capture takes minutes of agent work (typically around eight), not seconds.

Moving from Notion

Export your pages from Notion as Markdown & CSV, unzip the file, and drop the pages into Memento’s bulk import, which files the whole set in one pass. Each Notion page is kept as a source, and what it says lands on the pages it belongs to. A Notion workspace and a Memento library can also live side by side: team work in Notion, what you personally want to remember in Memento.

Try it on your own notes

Memento is in private beta and lets people in a handful at a time. The free plan is one knowledge space of your own plus the sample space, 20 agent runs a day, and every feature. You bring your own Claude, OpenAI or other model account, so model usage is billed by your provider, not by us.
